Connect Filing Documents

If the court permits, one or more filing documents can be "connected" to another filing document. A connected filing document functions as a "child" of the "parent" (lead) filing document that will be filed with the court. The filing documents are connected, yet still separate. Each filing document is individually reviewed by the court, and each can be accepted or rejected.

Note that only one level of connection is allowed; that is, parent >> child.

You'll upload a file and then connect it to the lead filing document.

Upload pane - lead document uploaded

  1. First, upload the lead filing document and select its Filing Type. See Upload your Filing Documents for details.

Upload pane - second document uploaded

  1. Next, upload the filing document to connect to the lead filing document.

  2. Select the Filing Type. This may not be required in all courts.

Upload pane - document handle selected

  1. Select and hold the stacked dots (handle) beside the Filing Name of the filing document you want to connect to the lead filing document, as shown above.

Upload pane - second document dragged to primary document

  1. Drag the handle to the row that contains the lead filing document. The lead filing document (and any of its existing children) will be highlighted as you drag the selected filing document over it.

  2. Move the selected filing document until the green line is positioned at the desired location. When connecting filing documents, the green line will always display below the row where your mouse is positioned.

Upload pane - documents connected

  1. Release the handle. The filing documents are now connected, which is indicated by the paper clip.

In some courts, the Filing Type of the connected filing document may default to CONNECTED FILING.

  1. Repeat steps 2 - 7 as needed.

See Separate Connected Filing Documents to learn how to separate a connected filing document from the lead filing document.
